Then somebody says, “You should really be showing up consistently online,” and now you’re also trying to figure out content, email ideas, social strategy, and what you even want your business voice to sound like.
That overwhelmed phase? Very real.
What surprised me most was that it wasn’t just about learning travel. It was learning how many layers the business actually has.
In the beginning, the hard part looked like this:
- Training that felt never-ending
- Marketing choices that somehow multiplied overnight
- Trying to understand suppliers, promotions, and booking systems all at once
- Figuring out how to build trust while still learning in real time
- Wondering if everybody else had a secret map I somehow missed
The truth? There is no secret map. You just keep showing up.
Being a “No Multitasker” in a Multitasking Industry
Let’s be honest: this business will test your brain.
There are so many details to remember in travel. Booking windows. Final payment dates. Promotions. Cabin types. Resort categories. Transfer options. Insurance details. Flight timing advice. Which destination works best for which traveler. And if you’re like me and you already know you are a no multitasker, that can feel like a lot.
I’ve had plenty of moments where I thought, “Wait, was that the promo ending this week, the training deadline, or the content idea I was supposed to write down?”
That part has been humbling.
I’ve had to accept that I don’t work best when I’m trying to juggle ten things at once. I work best when I slow down, focus, take notes, organize the details, and handle one thing well before jumping to the next. That may not sound flashy, but honestly? It has saved me.
What’s helping me stay grounded:
- Writing everything down
- Giving myself permission to learn in layers
- Not pretending I can do five things at once
- Building systems instead of relying on memory alone
- Remembering that accuracy matters more than speed
That’s one of the biggest lessons from these first six months: you do not need to move recklessly to move forward.
Patience is the Real Power Move
If I could say one thing to anyone starting out, it would be this: be patient with yourself.
This industry can make you feel like you should already know everything. But you won’t. Not in the first month. Not in six months. Maybe not even in the first year. There’s always something new to learn, a better system to build, a different destination to study, or a fresh strategy to test.
And that does not mean you’re behind.
It means you’re growing.
Patience has been one of the biggest lessons of this journey so far. Not passive patience. Not “sit back and hope.” I mean active patience—the kind where you keep learning, keep improving, keep showing up, and trust that the consistency is building something solid.
Here’s what patience looks like in real life:
- Re-reading training notes without beating yourself up
- Asking questions instead of pretending you know it all
- Taking your time with details so your clients feel supported
- Letting your confidence catch up to your effort
- Understanding that success in travel is built booking by booking, lesson by lesson
That mindset matters, because this career is not about rushing. It’s about building.
Why I’m Still Here and Not Stopping
Even with the overwhelm, the information overload, and the daily challenge of keeping all the moving pieces straight, I love this work.
I love learning about destinations.
I love matching people with the right kind of trip.
I love the idea that a well-planned vacation can make somebody’s whole year better.
I love that this business lets me combine service, strategy, creativity, and real care.
That’s the part that keeps me going.
These first six months have stretched me. They’ve tested my patience, my organization, and my attention span. But they’ve also confirmed that I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. I’m still learning, still building, still growing—and I’m not stopping.
